Wood

We primarily use American hardwoods in our designs, and our wood finishes provide a durable protective coating. We know that you will take good care of your pieces, but accidents happen! Dirt and spills are best attended to immediately. Use a lightly dampened cotton cloth to clean, followed by a wipe with a dry cloth to remove all moisture. Never use solvent-based cleaners. Do not store in damp or extreme temperature environments. Never set wet objects or oven-hot objects directly on wood surfaces. Deep scrapes can damage our black ash finish, but they can be concealed with the application of a black finish marking pen (such as a Minwax Ebony Stain Marker, linked here) or, for shallow scrapes, a plain old sharpie!

Leather

Leather is a natural material; it ages beautifully, but it can also mold, scuff, crack or be ruined by moisture if treated improperly. The best cleaning strategy for leather is to regularly dust with a dry cloth. Leather can also be wiped down with a lightly-dampened white cotton cloth to remove topical dust / dirt. If using a damp cloth, use it over the entire surface of the leather – do not spot clean, which may cause discoloration. Do not use soaps or other cleansers.

Wool

We use 100% merino wool felt in our Woolen Bench. The lanolin oil in this natural product makes it inherently stain resistant, water repellent, and mildew resistant. Vacuum occasionally to remove general air-borne debris. Should soiling occur, spot clean with mild soap and lukewarm water. Avoid aggressive rubbing as this can continue the felting process and change the surface appearance of the felt.

Weaves

We hope you love our woven pieces as much as we do! Part of what we love is the way that weaves can show the age and wear of a chair. A woven seat has a lifespan that is typically shorter than that of a chair, and it must be replaced every 20-40 years. To keep a weave looking it's best, keep it dry and clean, and protect it from dramatic shifts in moisture and temperature. Cane, splint, and Danish cord weaves can be wiped with a rag dampened with water or a gentle detergent. Paper Danish cord can be stained by wine or oil, so do attend to any spills immediately. See detailed care tips for Danish cord weaves here.
